Cotinerary runs a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server. Once connected, an assistant can list your trips, read itineraries and, if you allow it, add or change flights, hotels and activities for you.

1. Create an API token

  1. In the Cotinerary app, open Account → AI Assistants & API.
  2. Give the token a name you'll recognize, such as Claude Desktop.
  3. Choose an access level:
    • Read only: the assistant can list and read trips and search locations.
    • Read & write: it can also create, update and delete trips and itinerary items.
  4. Pick an expiration and tap Create token.
  5. Copy the token (it starts with cot_pat_). It is only shown once.

Treat the token like a password. Anyone with it can access your trips at the level you chose.

2. Add Cotinerary to your assistant

The server address is:

https://api.cotinerary.app/mcp

In the examples below, replace cot_pat_... with your token.

Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http cotinerary https://api.cotinerary.app/mcp \
    --header "Authorization: Bearer cot_pat_..."

Claude Desktop

Open Settings → Developer → Edit Config and add Cotinerary to claude_desktop_config.json. This uses mcp-remote, which requires Node.js. Restart Claude Desktop afterwards.

{
    "mcpServers": {
        "cotinerary": {
            "command": "npx",
            "args": [
                "-y", "mcp-remote", "https://api.cotinerary.app/mcp",
                "--header", "Authorization: Bearer cot_pat_..."
            ]
        }
    }
}

Cursor and other JSON-configured clients

Add this to your client's MCP configuration (for Cursor, ~/.cursor/mcp.json):

{
    "mcpServers": {
        "cotinerary": {
            "type": "http",
            "url": "https://api.cotinerary.app/mcp",
            "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer cot_pat_..." }
        }
    }
}

3. Try it

Ask your assistant something like:

  • "What's on my itinerary for my next trip?"
  • "When does my flight to Lisbon leave, in local time?"
  • "Add dinner at Taberna da Rua on Friday at 7:30pm to my Lisbon trip."

What an assistant can do

AccessCapabilities
Read onlyList trips, read a trip with its members and items, read the timeline, search locations
Read & writeEverything above, plus create, update and delete trips, activities, accommodations and transportation

Trip roles still apply: if you're a viewer on someone else's trip, an assistant can't change it either. Assistants can't change your account, invite people or change trip membership.

Revoke access

Open Account → AI Assistants & API and tap the delete icon next to the token. Revocation takes effect immediately.

Troubleshooting

  • 401 Unauthorized: the token is wrong, expired or revoked. Create a new one.
  • The assistant can read but not change trips: the token is read-only, or you're a viewer on that trip.
  • Claude Desktop doesn't show Cotinerary: check that Node.js is installed, the JSON is valid, and restart the app.
